{"id":453,"date":"2014-03-23T12:02:42","date_gmt":"2014-03-23T16:02:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thejovialcrew.com\/?page_id=453"},"modified":"2018-02-26T09:32:33","modified_gmt":"2018-02-26T13:32:33","slug":"bonny-banks-of-claudy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/thejovialcrew.com\/?page_id=453","title":{"rendered":"Bonny Banks of Claudy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is not what might be considered a &#8220;Jovial Crew&#8221; song for it is not of the style the pub crowd would <em>usually<\/em> sit for; but it is a beautifully haunting song I first heard from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jeffdavisoldmusic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeff Davis<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brian-peters.co.uk\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian Peters<\/a> at the 32 annual sea music festival in Mystic, CT\u00a0&#8211; 2011.\u00a0 Jeff sang the lead, and he tells me that he learned it from the late Fred Redden &#8211; bagpiper, singer, farmer, logger, miner, father, husband, and personal friend &#8211; from Middle Mosquidoboit, Nova Scotia, Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Both &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/saltywalt.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salty Walt<\/a>&#8221; Askew and I are curious of the origins of this song and recently we discovered an <a href=\"http:\/\/memory.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/ampage?collId=mussm&amp;fileName=sm\/sm1882\/16100\/16161\/mussm16161.db&amp;recNum=1&amp;itemLink=D?mussm:4:.\/tem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1882 composition <\/a>by I. M. Williams of the song with a slightly different melody, digitized by the Library of Congress.\u00a0 Here it is played by Richard Matteson&#8230;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-Ln5HU2OEoY\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Jos.
