This is a song composed in 1856 by John Cameron (Iain Camshron), a native of Ballachulish, Scotland; Cliff often sings this early in our sets.  It has that modal and dark sound that followers of Celtic songs and Outlander seem to be drawn to.  It had originally been composed in Scots Gaelic but has been translated to English and performed by several interpreters, so there are variations in the English, such as these much like Cliff’s version.  It’s also a popular slow march in the highland piping tradition.
