I learned this song as a child back home from the singing of one of matantes but it recently came back onto my radar by the performance of Chanterelle on their album “Soiree Chez Nous“. It was mostly made famous by the singing of country singer Lucille Star in 1964, and I have been made to understand that it is a composition of Harry Pease and Larry Vincent. I usually sing it for a couple of friends who particularly like this song and it is not something usually suited for a pub performance… But after several people asked me for the lyrics, and Rick & I have toyed with performing it during our practices, I have decided to include here on our site.

Quand le soleil dit bonjour aux montagnes
Et que la nuit rencontre le jour
Je suis seule avec mes rêves sur la montagne
Une voix me rappelle toujours
L’écho que m’apporte la chanson du vent
Rappelle des souvenirs de toi
Quand le soleil dit bonjour aux montagnes
Je suis seule. Je ne veux penser qu’a toi
<break>
Now when the Sun says good day to the mountains
And the night says hello to the dawn
I’m alone with my dreams on the mountain
I can still hear her voice though she’s gone
I hear through the trees a love song on the breeze
It brings back sweet memories of you
Quand le soleil dit bonjour aux montagnes
